Exposing and expelling the spirit of debt[sc]"The king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel." 1 Samuel 17:25b[/sc] The man that was able to defeat Goliath was to be greatly rewarded by the king. Few things that are mention here are:
That last point indicated that many father's house (families) were indebted to the king (government). Thus, by slaying Goliath, that man would have a new start to life and would advance to generational blessings. The name Goliath was a descriptive name which in Hebrew is "Galah" meaning "to denude" or "to make nude." Therefore the literal meaning of Goliath is "the one who takes captive and strips them naked." The Hebrews gave that name to the giant because this is how they felt. His presence and constant threatening had control over them and took them captive and stripped them naked. This is how the spirit of debt affects its victim. Like Goliath, debt stops you from living in peace; it constantly reminds you of your inferiority and ushers in complex and fear. It threatens you and makes you hide. Debt is a spirit. It is a ruling, manipulative and controlling spirit which purpose is to turn you into its servant. "The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender." Proverbs 22:7. [sc]"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." How to defeat debt"And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine." 1Sam.17:40 He took his staff – "Your rod and you staff, they comfort me."
He took five smooth stones – the number five represents grace CONFESS: "MY GOD IS A DEBT CANCELLING GOD."Notice David had a plan. To overcome the spirit of debt, you must have a plan. EXAMPLES: A family in debt - 2 Kings 4:1-7 Proverbs13:22:- "A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just." What he did was not good. He left an inheritance of debt to his children. He lived and died in debt. Eccles. 2:26:- "For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit." This man was too proud to admit his mistake. His wife had the courage and boldness to inform and confess to the man of God. (2 Chron. 20:20). Notice they had a plan. This plan would be enough to make her debt free and enable her to live in abundance. It would be a fresh start – a generational blessing begun. The borrowing was an investment not a debt.
